My Projects > Italy Project

Drawings have the potential to make things appear that were not there moments before. But being two dimensional, these drawn things can only represent what is wished for or missed; they can't actually be worn, used, or eaten. This project plays with the potential magic of a drawn object and acknowledges its futility.

These images are from a collaborative project I proposed while studying abroad in Italy. I traveled and lived with Penn State University undergraduate and graduate classmates for two months in a small Italian town. The students were of diverse majors, but this was an arts-focused study abroad program. One of the required courses was a drawing studio. For my final project, I asked participants to draw on transparencies what they wished for or missed and then use the drawings as though they were real.
